Blue Dragons upend Engineers, boost UCBL bid

MANILA, Philippines - Diliman College regrouped in time to stun Technological Institute of the Philippines, 73-70, in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque yesterday.

Guard Kris Torrado hit a crucial lay-up to give Diliman College a four-point cushion at 73-69 with 1:32 remaining in the contest and the Blue Dragons, owned by former Sen. Nikki Coseteng, hung tough to clinch the win and even their record to 2-2.

MJ Enriquez finished with 16 points while Jorey Napoles had a double-double effort of 14 points and 10 rebounds for the TIP Engineers, who dropped to 3-2.

Later in the day, JK Casino came through with 15 points and five assists while Congolese center Rodrigue Ebondo added 13 points and 12 boards as Centro Escolar University stretched its unbeaten run to five with a 107-75 drubbing of Bulacan State University.

Scorpions reserve Ehsan Veron fired 14 points and hauled down five rebounds to help power CEU to the win and bag the best player of the game honors.
