What P-Noy failed to mention in his SONA

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Philippine Star

Friends have been texting me what I thought of the supposedly “True” State of the Nation (SONA) address of Vice President Jejomar Binay. All I can say is… this is exactly what we’ve been writing about in the past five years, but no one believed it because most Filipinos all fell under the yellow propaganda machinery of Pres. Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III. In short, VP Binay didn’t come up with a real and explosive bombshell that he can call his own. He could have gotten his research from all the columns of the critics of P-Noy and voila… he comes up with his own version of the SONA.

But a good friend of mine and fellow columnist in The Freeman and staunch anti-dangerous drugs crusader Atty. Paul Oaminal, who was the guest during the 888 News Forum at the Marco Polo Plaza last Tuesday morning, told me that there was something common in the SONAs of both P-Noy and VP Binay. One is that they spoke only in Tagalog!

Atty. Oaminal said that in all the six SONAs of Pres. Aquino, he never mentioned anything against the biggest menace that the world is facing today…that’s the cancer of illegal drugs and this is also true to VP Binay who also failed to mention the drug problem that has destroyed thousands of our youth and many families. Why are they avoiding this issue?

In my TV interview with Atty. Oaminal last year, he challenged anyone that he would give P5,000 to those who would prove him wrong. So far no one has come to claim his prize. This brings us to ask, why has P-Noy shied away from talking about the drug problem of our country in all his SONAs? Under P-Noy, the drug dealers and pushers had a great time!

It came as a report found in the inside pages of The Philippine STAR last Aug. 3, which was an acknowledgement by the Department of Education (DepEd) that the Aboitiz Group of Companies is the biggest contributor and its partner in the role of government to uplift the state of the country’s public educational system. This was told by no less than DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro last July 24th when he spoke before 600 participants, which included 330 Aboitiz scholars at the Tent City in Enderun Colleges in Taguig City.

All told, the Aboitiz Foundation spent last year some P437 million or 72 percent of its total Corporate Social Responsibility budget allocation. Aboitiz Foundation Chairman Erramon “Montxu” Aboitiz said, “Our strong commitment to education resonates in our commitment to help make all Filipino children lifelong learners through our Education for a Better world campaign. We firmly believe that education is where we can make the greatest impact to help improve it in our country.” I’m writing this because we in Cebu already know that the Aboitiz Foundation, through its CSR programs was one of the first companies to give our computers to our public schools.

The Aboitiz Foundation (AF) and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) were not only the first responders to the greatest typhoon that struck the planet earth, when Super Typhoon ravished Leyte, Samar, Northern Cebu and Panay, they went as far as coming up with P200 Million to fix the destroyed public schools in San Remigio, Bogo and other parts of northern Cebu which was devastated by Super Typhoon “Yolanda”.

Kudos the Aboitiz Group of Companies and the Aboitiz Foundation for their efficiency and above all their consistency in getting into the core in the fight against the vicious cycle of poverty. I always attended the Aboitiz Future Leaders Summit, which this year is on its 8th edition and in this two-day Summit with student’s from the finest universities and colleges all over the country, who will have a person-to-person meeting with the Aboitiz Group of Companies executives, you will see how the youth of today are able to see a glimpse of what their future would be like with the leadership of the executives of the Aboitiz Group of Companies.

Since we touched on the issue of Super Typhoon Yolanda, we just read last Saturday, August 1, 2015 that United Nations (UN) report that revealed that the Philippines has not done enough to help the thousands of typhoon victims who remain in shanties without power or water. Many of these victims have been relocated several times already but they still have no permanent homes. The Knights of Columbus did more in Leyte than Pres. PNoy.

This UN report forced Department of Social Welfare & Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman to admit that there are still some 2,000 families who lived in bunkhouses or hastily built shanties. Like her Boss, Pres. Aquino, she blamed others for her own failures, despite the fact that the International Community gave billions of dollars to help the typhoon victims. This is what Pres. PNoy Aquino has done for Yolanda typhoon victims two years after they were hit by this natural disaster. Shame!
