CPP/NDF/NPA got a share from the pork?

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Philippine Star

It’s exactly 12 years since that dastardly attack by Al Qaeda terrorists using hijacked commercial airlines piloted by suicide pilots and were crashed at the twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon… and the other aircraft was supposedly targeted to crash into the White House. Yet after a dozen years later, even with the killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama Bid Laden, the world continues to suffer from this kind of scourge of death.

From mere ordinary terrorism using improvised explosive devices (IED), Al Qaeda terrorists were now seen participating or should I say interfering in the removal of the dictators during the Arab Spring. They did a lot of damage in Libya and were probably involved in the killing also exactly a year ago of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and two Marines were killed in a shocking and dastardly attack at the US Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi, Libya. A year later, the world still hasn’t really known why a US Ambassador had to die under the watch of US Pres. Barack Obama.

Meanwhile US Pres. Obama is furiously trying to rally the US Congress and the European Union (EU) for a punitive strike against Syria for allegedly using chemical weapons against its own people where 1,429 were killed, of which 400 were children. But Pres. Obama seems to be failing in his bid with the EU chastising Syria, but silent on giving the authority to strike.

While US air strikes on Syria remains a cliffhanger, last Saturday evening, we watch over the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) a jam-packed St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican with Pope Francis exhorting all Christians to sue for peace with a big resounding No to bombing Syria. Let me reprint an excerpt of the Pope’s statement.

“At this point I ask myself; Is it possible to change direction? Can we get out of this spiral of sorrow and death? Can we learn once again to walk and live in the ways of peace? Invoking the help of God, under the maternal gaze of the Salus Populi Romani, Queen of Peace, I say: Yes, it is possible for everyone! From every corner of the world tonight, I would like to hear us cry out: Yes, it is possible for everyone! Or even better, I would like for each one of us, from the least to the greatest, including those called to govern nations, to respond: Yes, we want it!”

Yes, between war and peace, even the soldiers who fight for us would choose peace. So this brings us back to the old question why do we still have that decades old Communist insurgency, where almost every day we get a report of NPAs killed or soldiers ambushed? I say that we should echo the call of Pope Francis and cry, let’s change direction we want too want peace!

But then, the Communist insurgency is operated by remote control by Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) chairman Jose Maria “Joma” Sison from faraway from Utrecht. Until know, I still can’t understand why Pres. Cory Aquino released Joma when then Pres. Ferdinand Marcos arrested him on legitimate charges? Perhaps because of the association of the Aquino family and Joma, people believe that the CPP, the National Democratic Front (NDF) and the New People’s Army (NPA) have gained strength and are stronger than ever. So why can’t we ever stop this insurgency?

The only answer that I can find is… because we totally failed to follow the advice of the nation’s most loved President Ramon Magsaysay Jr. who taught us a long time ago a slogan to neutralize the communist threat…”Find them, Fool them, Fight them, and Finish them, then offer them the hand of peace!” That was 56 years ago… and the Communist insurgency is still here today just like all the other old problems of the Philippines, were we never get to solve these problems. This is why the country isn’t moving forward!

Today the entire nation is focused on the problems we’ve having with the political elite’s misuse of the pork barrel and we know too well that the biggest problem today is that President Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III still wants to keep his pork. That is why there is another massive rally, this time at the EDSA Shrine. Indeed if the Pork Barrel is removed…we shall remove the nation’s biggest obstacles to a genuine reform and finally be a better nation.

I dare say that the communist insurgency has also greatly benefited from the pork barrel that has been given to the Party-list organizations a.k.a. the allied fronts of the CPP. I was aghast to read a report from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) that the so-called Makabayan Coalition got a total of P674.215 million from their PDAFs!

Now I do understand how Communism works… that these Party-list representatives could have shared their Pork to the enemies of the state… to buy bullets, guns… and put bacteria in their landmines. Now all the more we should demand to abolish the pork barrel as it is could also be helping fuel the communist insurgency! I say it is time for this nation to finally put an end to this insurgency and let’s start by removing the pork barrel altogether so we can finally rid this nation of this evil that plaques our society.
