New triathlon head to tap Subic anew for competitions

PEOPLE - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) is staging the Balike-Subit campaign as part of its program under president-elect Ramon Marchan next year.

The Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) will be celebrating its 24th year when the event is held April 29-30, 2017, which serves as part of the association’s biggest projects under its new leadership.

Marchan, who replaces long-time president Tom Carrasco Jr., begins his term as TRAP chief on Jan. 1. Carrasco will assume the position of secretary-general by then.

“Ito ang unang karera ng triathlon na nagpunta sa Subic. Tayo ang nagsimula diyan, haggang sa naging international event na siya,” said Marchan in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum Tuesday at Shakey’s Malate.

“We encourage triathletes, both elite and age groupers, who tried SuBIT before to go back and reminisce the past,” added TRAP marketing director Sarita Zafra.
