For art’s sake

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

Peru Consul General Dr. Francis Chua was the guest of honor and speaker at the 2015 Artist Residency Program presenting Berlin-based Antonio Paucar, the first Peruvian artist to win an art residency in Manila.

Consul General Chua was personally invited by the Metropolitan Museum of Manila president Tina Colayco to be part of the milestone collaboration between the Consulate General of Peru in Manila and the esteemed museum.

Here’s to the muses of art!

The grandeur that was Manila Hilton

Reliving the golden days of the Manila Hilton International Hotel, the country’s first international hotel, was its former staff of over 200 individuals as they gathered for a grand reunion held at the very same hotel now known as the Manila Pavilion Hotel.

A number of attendees flew in from around the globe for the special event including former general managers Andre Charriere and Axel Goerlach. Also gracing the wonderful affair were members of the Delgado family, owners of the Manila Hilton, led by matriarch Nellie Delgado.

The said reunion, which took two years to plan, came into fruition because of the untiring effort of the organizing committee composed of Edna Reyes-Windisch, Carms Galicia-Feinerman, Cary Abeleda and Rita Dy.

Starting off the evening’s festivities was a welcome cocktail party hosted by former sales and marketing director Arthur Lopez. At the party, everyone exchanged stories about their fun and unforgettable experiences while working at the famed five-star hotel. The rest of the evening was filled with laughter and merrymaking as the guests reminisced about the good old days of the Manila Hilton while partaking of the excellent food, wine and champagne.

Until the next grand reunion!

Helping hands

The Friends for Cultural Concerns of the Philippines (FCCP), led by its president Cristina Galang-Caedo, donated motorboats to the constituents of Ormoc, Leyte, one of the many places ravaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda. The donation was received by Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez who hails from Ormoc.

The FCCP, through Gawad Kalinga, also built houses in Palo, Leyte to help alleviate the suffering of residents rendered homeless by the super typhoon.

Thank heavens for these valuable donations.

Of high-grade steaks

Noted A-listers from the diplomatic, government, business and social circles gathered at the top-notch restaurant House of Wagyu Stone Grill located at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City to have a taste of the famed Saga Wagyu beef.

Originating from Saga Prefecture in Japan, Saga Wagyu beef takes pride in its special calf-rearing technology, which complements the nurturing attention of farmers in a tradition traced to centuries of practice. The result is high-grade, flavor-filled steak with delicate melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and juiciness at first bite.

Graciously welcoming guests to the gastronomic event were House of Wagyu owner CarmeloMeloSantiago, general manager Corinne Castaneda and House of Wagyu Manila Bay managers Boy and Theresa Alvarez.

Congratulations and more power to the entire House of Wagyu team!
