Fashion Takes Flight

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee - The Philippine Star

Avid shoppers have the chance to jet-set in fashion as SM and MasterCard launched a joint promotion called Fashion Takes Flight, which gives shoppers a chance to fly to one of my favorite cities: Paris.

Guests trooped to SM Megamall Fashion Hall to witness a fashion show featuring collections from top global fashion brands including Burton Menswear, Dorothy Perkins, Forever 21, GAP, Mango, Old Navy, River Island, Topman, Topshop and Uniqlo. Afternoon snacks were served by The French Baker while music was provided by The Zombettes composed of DJ duo Sanya Smith and Ornusa Cadness.

MasterCard’s JoAnn Camacho said, “A chance to visit the fashion capital of the world is our gift to our cardholders this season. With this joint promo, SM and MasterCard make holiday shopping experience at the SM Megamall tres exciting.”

Under the Fashion Takes Flight promo, every P5,000 single or accumulated receipt/s including straight and installment purchase transactions, from any outlet (food or non-food) at SM Megamall using a Philippine-issued MasterCard entitles cardholder to one electronic raffle entry. Promo runs until Jan. 15, 2015.

Winning cardholders will also be treated to a travel package for two to Paris inclusive of Cathay Pacific plane tickets, four-day/three-night luxury accommodation, airport transfers, a private tour of the Louvre, professional makeover, photo shoot around Paris’ iconic sites, dinner atop the Eiffel Tower at Alain Ducasse’s Le Jules Verne restaurant and passes for a major fashion show.

A generation of champions

The roster of champions is complete! Skechers Streetdance Battle 10 capped off a decade of streetdance supremacy with the Final Battle last Nov. 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Joining the elite roster of champions and winning the ultimate bragging rights as the Skechers Streetdance Battle 10 champions are Enciende of St. Pedro Poveda College for the high school division and La Salle Dance Company-Street of De La Salle University Manila for the college division. Each champion team took home P100,000, a pair of Skechers footwear for all the members of the dance crew, and one year supply of Greenwich pizza.

Hosted by Shaina Magdayao, Show Suzuki, EricEruptionTai, and international hip hop icon Mookie Washington, the Final Battle kicked off on a high note with amazing performances by the first streetdance college division champion UP Streetdance Club, followed by Legit Status, Tha Project, The Crew  and Protein Shake.

International dance phenomenon Dumbo Nguyen, founder and member of the famed Poreotics that won America’s Best Dance Crew Season 5, wowed with a special dance showcase that highlighted his smooth moves and sharp talent. The atmosphere in the packed arena was electrifying as the amped up crowd cheered and danced with the performers onstage.

A prestigious panel of judges was brought in to assess the finalists, including Dumbo Nguyen, Jobel Dayrit and Georcelle Dapat-Sy of G-Force, and Wilson Ong of Whiplash. It was a tough night for the judges as the 15 college crews and 12 high school crews faced off in a sizzling showdown that was a fitting celebration to 10 years of Skechers Streetdance Battle excellence.

Ultimately, the La Salle Dance Company-Street and Enciende emerged victorious for their strong and polished performances. Company of Dancers of the Ateneo de Manila University and UP Streetdance Club of the University of the Philippines Diliman won as first and second runners-up for the college division, respectively; and Airforce of La Salle Greenhills and IndAK of Ateneo High School were awarded as first and second runners-up in the high school division, respectively.

Highlights of the show included the Skechers Freestyle Showdown and a Skechers fashion show featuring the Skechers Streetstylers. Louis Luthy of Claret’s Hataw and Anna Isabella Isip of Saint Paul College Pasig’s Terpsichore were the two Skechers Streetstyler finalists chosen as winners. They received P10,000 worth of Skechers gift certificates.

Before the champions were announced, the Skechers Battle Crew, representatives from the competing teams in the Final Battle, took the stage for a fun and youthful number choreographed by Georcelle Dapat-Sy.

For the past 10 years, the spotlight has been trained on the exceptional dancers of different schools. The Final Battle was the stage of a grand celebration for the past and present champions, a spectacular show to recognize that the biggest, hottest and toughest streetdance competition is a result of the hard work, dedication and talent of the students. The performance of the Skechers Battle Crew is a fitting closing number to celebrate the historic decade of the Skechers Streetdance Battle.

The Skechers Streetdance Battle 10 was presented by Skechers GOrun3, Skechers SKCH+3, Skechers Time and Skechers Apparel. Sponsors included Greenwich Pizza and media partners ETC, Sports Digest, Chalk, CLAVEL sneaker magazine, PEP.ph, WhenInManila.com, SoundCheckManila and Monster Radio RX 93.1. The event was conceptualized and organized by Brainbox.
