MANILA, Philippines — Incoming vessels from Japan will be able to aid the president's war on drugs, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson Commander Armando Balilo said.

Balilo revealed that the patrol vessels might be able to help the Duterte administration's anti-narcotics war.

"Limited din yung mga resources natin. Pero may mga parating tayong mga barko and hopefully, makakatulong yung mga yon," Balilo said.

One of the 10 patrol vessels already arrived last August, while succeeding vessels will be coming in quarterly starting December 2016 with the last one arriving August 2018.

The Parola-class patrol vessels, parola being the Filipino word for lighthouse, were named after major lighthouses in the Philippines.

President Rodrigo Duterte has mentioned that the country is a transshipment point of Mexico's notorious Sinaloa drug cartel. According to Balilo, the patrol vessels will be a major aid in cutting the supply chain of drugs from the seas.
