MANILA, Philippines – The daughter-in-law of late senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago recently posted videos of the senator playing with her children as she reminisced the moments before her passing.

Mechel Santiago, Miriam’s daughter-in-law, took to Facebook to express how she misses the late senator, who passed away last Thursday after a bout with lung cancer. She posted videos showing Miriam interacting with her children despite her delicate condition.

"I'm going home now... I'm going home now...,” Miriam told her grandchildren during a visit to Mechel’s home.

In her Facebook post, Mechel said only two of Miriam’s grandchildren knew of her death.

“The rest only think that you are in the hospital. It's hard to hear them every night praying for you to get well and come home soon,” Mechel wrote.

“Once they are ready, we will tell all the kids that you are indeed home already ... in the hands of God, with their Uncle Alex,” she added. Alex died in 2003 after committing suicide.

Miriam was laid to rest at the Loyola Memorial Park on Sunday. Her request to be buried beside her son’s remains was granted.

The late senator was known to be close to her grand children. —Rosette Adel
