WATCH: Association with president is Roxas’s challenge, analyst says

MANILA, Philippines – An analyst mentions that the association of Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Manuel Roxas II with President Benigno Aquino III is a challenge to his presidential bid.

Dindo Manhit, managing director of consultancy firm Stratbase, says Roxas runs his campaign with the idea that the country needs a continuation of the “Daang Matuwid.”However, he said this is a drawback for Roxas as Aquino’s achievements are not associated with him.

Manhit says that although Roxas "build on the gains" of  the president such as the Conditional Cash Transfer and universal healthcare, the LP bet is still connected with the negative issues the Aquino administration encountered such as the failure of peace and order and infrastructure.

The political analyst said Roxas could have defined himself better as the president’s support base and that association is not enough for his presidential bid.
