Alixandra Caole Vila - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Have you ever been "catcalled" or uncomfortably stared at by strangers while silently walking on your way home? If you have, then you know how it feels like to be harassed on the streets.

Shoshana B. Roberts, a New York city-based actress volunteered to be the subject of the public service announcement video highlighting the street harassment encountered by women, and the result is disturbing.

Wearing a crew-neck T-shirt and jeans, she walked around the streets of New York for 10 hours while Rob Bliss walked in front of her with a camera in his backpack. Watch video below.

Comments ranged from friendly greetings like “Have a nice evening!" to uncalled-for remarks on her body such as “Sexy!” and “Hey beautiful!” There was even the time when someone walked with her for five minutes while constantly talking to her and asking her number.

Hollaback, a nonprofit organization, which aims to end street harassment, together with with the video marketing agency Rob Bliss Creative filmed the video. The video currently has more than one million views since posted yesterday.
