PhlPost issues Duterte inauguration stamps

MANILA, Philippines – Apart from action figures and game applications, supporters of President Duterte can now add to their collection copies of his inauguration stamp recently issued by the Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost).

Since Aug. 1, PHLPost has made available in the market the commemorative stamp marking the inauguration of the country’s 16th president that took place last June 30.

The 71-year-old Duterte is the country’s oldest Chief Executive and the only one from Mindanao.

Despite his tough talk and at times brash manner, Duterte won the May 9 presidential race by a landslide, garnering 16,601,997 votes.

PhlPost said while the stamps were released last Aug. 1, only about 2,000 had been sold by the Central Post Office in Plaza Lawton, Manila.

PHLPost told The STAR the stamp has yet to be launched formally as they were still waiting for Malacañang to set the schedule.

It has been part of PhlPost’s tradition to issue a stamp whenever there is a new president. It is the agency’s way of recording the historic event.

The Post Office printed 150,000 pieces of the regular Duterte inauguration stamp now being sold at P17 each.

Aside from Duterte, there are five other persons seen on the stamp, including his four children: Sara Carpio, Davao City mayor; Paolo, the city vice mayor; Sebastian, who stood behind him; and youngest daughter Veronica, who held the Bible.

Also in the picture is Supreme Court Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes, who administered the oath.

PhlPost has also printed 10,000 copies of the special limited edition souvenir sheet measuring 10 centimeters x 4.5 centimeters. It is being sold at P55 each.

They have also produced a commemorative first day cover envelop with the Philippine flag, the official seal of the President and Malacañang in the background.

The stamps will be available until July 31, 2017 or until supply lasts. For inquiries about the Duterte commemorative inauguration stamp, interested parties may call 527-0108 or 527-0132.
