Pentagon group's Twitter account pokes fun at Davao blasts

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Pentagon has suspended the Twitter account of its anti-improvised explosive device (IED) group after it cracked a joke about the recent twin blasts in Davao City.

Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said on Twitter that he has directed the suspension of the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization's (JIEDDO) account.

He said the "inappropriate and offensive" posts of the group's Twitter account (@JIEDDO) were "plainly unacceptable."

Twitter curation website Twitchy.com showed a screencap of the controversial tweet of the JIEEDO, which said: "Were they re-showing Gigli? Bomb explosions occur at 2 movie theaters in the Philippines."

"Gigli" was a 2003 romantic comedy film starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, and Al Pacino.

The movie was considered as a "box office bomb" for its poor sales.

On Monday night, explosions rocked two mall cinemas in Davao City.

An earlier report said that according to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, the explosions were not meant to harm but more of an attempt to threaten a particular target.

“However you see it, it is still an act of terrorism,” he said.
