30 Sayyaf men neutralized - AFP
MANILA, Philippines - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) yesterday said the two-month intensified operations against the Abu Sayyaf were successful, resulting in the neutralization of some 30 bandits.
“The aim of our operations is not only to run after the Abu Sayyaf, these are also intended to ensure peaceful elections,” AFP spokesman Lt. Col. Arnulfo Burgos Jr. told radio station dzBB.
“I do not have the exact numbers but more or less, we have neutralized around 30 (Abu Sayyaf members) in the last two months,” he added.
Burgos said they would immediately conduct an assessment to determine if there is a need to augment troops in some areas.
“For every phase of our operations, we conduct assessments and repositioning of forces, depending on the area commanders. These are based on their assessments on the area,” he said.
Burgos said they do not have the exact number of remaining Abu Sayyaf members, adding though that it has been reduced due to the AFP’s successive offensives.
