Fetus dumped near evacuation center
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — A female fetus was found near an evacuation center for Mayon evacuees in this city on Monday afternoon.
The fetus, which was placed in an empty cement sack, was found by three construction workers at the back of the Bitano Elementary School, according to Senior Inspector Milet Tilos, spokesperson for the Legazpi City police.
Tilos said a steel wire was tied around the fetus’ abdomen.
“The fetus could have been dead already when it was dumped in the area as none among the evacuees heard a baby crying,” she said.
Tilos said they would go to the evacuation center to find out who among the evacuees gave birth.
At least 400 families composed of 1,600 individuals from Barangay Mabinit are staying at the evacuation center. The village is located within the danger zone of Mayon Volcano.
Personnel from the city health office examined the fetus before giving her a decent burial.
