Ex-Ilocos mayor nabbed for guns, ammo

TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan, Philippines — A former mayor of Paoay, Ilocos Norte was arrested yesterday for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Dolores Clemente, 60, yielded two M16 rifles, a caliber .45 and caliber 380 pistols, two shotguns and various types of ammunition during a raid on his house in Barangay San Roque at around 6 a.m., Senior Inspector Grandeur Tangonan, Paoay police chief, said.

Clemente was placed under “hospital arrest” after allegedly suffering from hypertension during the raid. 

Tangonan said two men in Clemente’s house, suspected to be guns-for-hire, were also held for questioning.
