ORMOC CITY, Philippines — Boxes of firecrackers and pyrotechnics were recovered in raids on two electronics stores in this city yesterday.

James Sy, the owner of the stores, told police he bought the firecrackers for P400,000.

Senior Superintendent Ramil Ramirez, Ormoc police chief, said the firecrackers and pyrotechnics were found on the third floor of  Sy’s stores along Real and Rizal streets.

Ramirez said the seized items include prohibited firecrackers such as piccolo,  which were placed in boxes marked with the names of legal firecrackers.

Ramirez said the seized items are considered “contraband” because Sy has no permit to sell them.

Ramirez said it is up to the court to decide if it would release the fireworks to Sy.

Superintendent Joel Camacho of the Ormoc Police Safety Company said the raid was based on a search warrant issued by Abuyog Regional Trial Court Judge Carlos Arguelles on Thursday.
