Jeepney plunges into North Cotabato ravine, killing 8
NORTH COTABATO — Eight commuters were killed while 10 others were injured when a jeepney fell off a cliff in President Roxas town on Sunday.
The driver of the jeepney reportedly lost control when its brake system malfunctioned while he was maneuvering through a downhill stretch of a highway in Barangay Greenhills in President Roxas.
Superintendent Bernard Tayong, spokesman of the North Cotabato provincial police, said on Monday that initial findings by responding investigators indicated that mechanical failure was a cause of the accident.
Witnesses said the jeepney first wiggled from left to right before it fell into a 30-foot ravine, rolled over thrice and landed on its side.
Tayong said the injured commuters were immediately rushed to hospitals by responding barangay officials and personnel of the President Roxas municipal police.
