Japan gives P23 M to build new classrooms

MANILA, Philippines — Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda recently signed five grant contracts with representatives of various schools to build new classrooms and rehabilitate those damaged by natural disasters and are dilapidated.

Annalyn Sevilla, Undersecretary for Finance, Budget and Performance Monitoring of the Department of Education witnessed the signing ceremony.

A total of 22 classrooms in four elementary schools and a high school in the Visayas and Mindanao will be built under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects worth $477,444 or approximately P23 million.

The beneficiaries are the Catalunan Grande Elementary School in Davao City with a grant of approximately P5.3 million; Bagong Buhay Elementary School in Ormoc, Leyte (P2.3 million);  Sto. Niño High School in Talibon, Bohol (P4.3 million); Julian P. Gomilla Elementary School in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental (P3.9 million), and  Bonifacio Elementary School in Surigao City (P7.7 million).
