KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines — The police chief of Antipas, Cotabato was killed and four others were badly injured in a highway accident in Kidapawan City on Sunday afternoon.
Kidapawan City is the capital of Cotabato province, which is more commonly called by the old name of North Cotabato.
Chief Inspector Raymund Sarmogenes died on the spot when his blue Toyota Avanza collided head-on with a Mitsubishi jeep on an accident-prone stretch of the Cotabato-Davao Highway.
All four passengers of the jeep — Joselito Aberde, his wife Maria Evelyn, and their children Jenny Joy and John Rey — were badly injured in the collision.
They were rushed to a hospital by a responding government emergency team.
Superintendent Bernard Tayong, spokesman of the North Cotabato provincial police, said Monday that Sarmogenes' vehicle was damaged beyond repair.
