Wounded soldier, militiaman receive medals, financial aid

DAVAO CITY  , Philippines  —  An Army soldier and a militiaman, who were wounded while performing their duties, received medals from President Duterte on Saturday night.

Duterte pinned the Order of Lapu-Lapu medals on Pfc Ronald Pamonag and Eduardo Matambonoy Jr., who were both confined at the Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command  Station Hospital at Camp Panacan here.

The Order of Lapu-Lapu is given to individuals who have rendered extraordinary services to the country. 

Matambonoy suffered injuries during a firefight against suspected New People’s Army guerrillas in Magugpo East, Tagum City on Friday.

Pamonag was injured in the Marawi battle. 

Aside from medals, Duterte gave Pamonag and Matambonoy as well as the other soldiers confined at the hospital financial assistance.
