Tropical Depression Tino set to hit Palawan on Friday

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Tino, which has maintained its strength, is expected to make landfall in Palawan on Friday, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Tropical Storm Signal No. 1 is being raised in Palawan.      

Residents in Palawan are advised to be alerted against possible flash floods and landslides while light to moderate rains are expected over Visayas, Bicol region and the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.

The weather bureau warned that sea travel in Palawan is risky due to moderate to rough seas.

In its 5:00 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the eye of Tino was located 65 kilometers of east of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour.

Tino was forecasted to move west northwest at 28 kilometers per hour.

It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Saturday morning.
