Magnitude 5.4 quake jolts Luzon

Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake rocked parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, on Sunday night.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said there were no reports of damage or injuries, but warned the public of possible aftershocks.

The tremor occurred at about 10:21 p.m., with its epicenter traced nine kilometers southwest of Lian, Batangas.

The quake was felt at Intensity 2 in Calatagan, Batangas and the cities of Malabon, Navotas and Olongapo as well as Bacoor, Cavite.

The Philippines sits along the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area prone to earthquakes and volcanic activities.
