Magnitude 4.9 quake jolts Ilocos

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake shook parts of the Ilocos region yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the epicenter of the quake, which was located 43 kilometers west of Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur, occurred at around 3:06 p.m.

The tremor was felt at Intensity 5, which is classified as strong, in Sinait, Ilocos Sur. It was felt at Intensity 3 in Vigan and Santa, Ilocos Sur and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

The quake was also felt in Benguet, Apayao and Abra.

No damage or aftershocks were expected from the quake.
