Tree falls on house; 2 killed

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A couple died after they were pinned by a century-old balete tree that fell on their house in Barangay Sinunuc in this city yesterday.

The fatalities were identified as Naser Sajili, 53, and his wife Nursidin, 40. Their children Rakid, 15, and Hadiyam 11, were injured.

The victims were sleeping at their house when the incident occurred.

“We heard a rumbling sound and thought it was just raining hard,” Tammang Musa, a relative and neighbor of the victims, said.

Residents said the soil loosened due to continuous rains in the past four days.
