2 slain in shootings

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay official and a businesswoman were gunned down by motorcycle-riding men in Cagayan and Nueva Ecija on Tuesday.

Edna Barrut, councilwoman of Barangay Simpatuyo in Sta. Teresita, Cagayan, was walking in Sitio Buyabok at around 5:30 p.m. when she was shot. She died at the scene.

Probers said the killing could be related to Barrut’s job as a real estate agent.

Zenaida Santiago, 50, had just left Rigos Ricemill in Barangay Abar 1st, San Jose, Nueva Ecija when she was shot. She died while being treated at the Heart of Jesus Hospital.

Investigations into the killings are ongoing.
