3 robbery suspects, 2 others shot dead
MANILA, Philippines — Three suspected robbers and two others were gunned down in Cagayan and Bulacan on Wednesday.
Two other persons were killed in Nueva Ecija and Cotabato yesterday.
Two men who have yet to be identified allegedly shot it out with police officers who set up a checkpoint in Barangay Calamagui, Solana after receiving reports of motorcycle thefts near the area.
Christian James Danao, 28, and Jayem Caranguian, 19, said the fatalities took their wallets and motorcycles.
Motorists, who saw the suspects beating up the victims, reported the incident to the police.
The alleged companion of the fatalities, Richard Culang, 32, was arrested.
Police said Culang’s group was involved in a string of robberies in Solana, Enrile and Tuao towns.
In Bulacan, an unidentified man accused of taking the money and cell phone of vendor Rubylina Gumasing allegedly fired at responding policemen in Barangay Poblacion, Sta. Maria.
Animal feed dealer Remigio Padre, 50, was driving his motorcycle in Barangay Tambo Adorable, San Leonardo, Nueva Vizcaya when he was shot. He was declared dead on arrival at the Mariano Padre Gonzales General Hospital.
In Cotabato, Hadji Nasif Sampiano, 52, was shot during the wedding of his daughter at the Al-Nor commercial complex.
The groom, Abil Gampong Balindong, 35, was seriously wounded and taken to the Cotabato Regional Medical Center.
