Magnitude 4.1 quake rattles Isabela

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.1 earthquake on Thursday afternoon shook Isabela, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

In its latest advisory, Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 1:36 p.m. Its epicenter was traced at 16 kilometers southeast of San Pablo, Isabela.

The tremor was felt at Intensity III in Tuguegarao. Phivolcs categorizes an Intensity III quake as weak and felt by several people indoors especially in upper floors of buildings. At this intensity, hanging objects also swing moderately.

Phivolcs said the earthquake with a depth of focus of 2 km was tectonic in origin.

No aftershock or damage was expected from the quake.

At least five other mild quakes were recorded Thursday. These occurred in Adams, Ilocos Norte; Ormoc, Leyte; Mangatarem, Pangasinan; Jomalig, Quezon; and Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
