MANILA, Philippines —A number of areas in Manila will be affected by mass demonstrations as the country observes the 45th anniversary of the commonly acknowledged date of the declaration of martial law.

In light of this, the Manila Police District and the Metro Manila Development Authority have issued a traffic advisory indicating alternative routes and the affected areas for motorists who plan to travel within Manila on Thursday, September 21.

It warned the public to expect heavy traffic.

President Rodrigo Duterte declared September 21 a “National Day of Protest” and announced suspension of classes and government work to give way for rallies but protests were already scheduled even before the announcement.
