Woman drug convict bolts jail
ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — A woman serving a sentence for illegal drugs escaped from the Zamboanga del Norte Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Don Jose Aguierre, Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte on Friday.
The escape was discovered after prison officials conducted a headcount at around 3 p.m., Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Zamboanga peninsula police spokesperson, said yesterday.
Galvez said the escapee could have taken advantage of a medical outreach program at the jail facility. A portion of the barbed wire fence at the back of the female cell building was found detached.
The 13-year-old daughter of the escapee was arrested and placed under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for trying to sneak a sachet of shabu into the prison last Wednesday. The Grade 8 student reportedly hid the illegal drugs in her socks.
