Quakes jolt Eastern Visayas, Ilocos Sur
MANILA, Philippines — Earthquakes hit parts of Eastern Visayas and Ilocos Sur yesterday, but did not cause any damage, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
A magnitude 4.9 quake, with its epicenter traced 36 kilometers southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, occurred at around 2:25 a.m.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4 – which is classified as moderately strong – in Guiuan, Intensity 3 in Salcedo and Lawaan, Eastern Samar and Intensity 2 in Tacloban and Palo, Leyte.
Another tremor struck three kilometers southwest of Capoocan, Leyte at about 12:55 p.m.
The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Capoocan, Kananga and Leyte and Intensity 2 in Ormoc.
Phivolcs said a magnitude 3.9 tremor rocked parts of Ilocos Sur at about 4:15 p.m.
The epicenter of the quakewas located 57 kms northwest of Vigan, Ilocos Sur. The tremor was felt at Intensity 2 in Vigan and Intensity 1 in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
