5 dead in Zamboanga Sibugay landslide

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Five workers died when a landslide buried their hut in Barangay Peñaranda, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday.

Four of the fatalities were identified as Sannylito Tuquib, 21; Danilo Balicoco, 53; Adrian Ledesma, 30, and Jeffrey Lamparas – all residents of Purok 5, Barangay Tigbangagan.

Ernacio Catipay, Joel Longgaquit and Joe Ledesma were rescued. 

Initial investigation showed the victims were sleeping when the landslide occurred amid heavy rains at around 5 a.m.  

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Zamboanga peninsula police spokesperson, said the body of the fifth fatality, who has yet to be identified, was recovered at about 4 p.m.
