4 slain in Calabarzon shootings

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Four persons were killed while a police officer was wounded in separate shootings in Calabarzon over the weekend.

Benjur Bermejo was walking in Barangay Dela Paz, Antipolo City, Rizal when an unidentified assailant shot him on Saturday.

On the same day, Eduardo Villareal was shot by six masked men on three motorcycles as he was walking in Barangay Silangan, San Mateo town.

Villareal was declared dead on arrival at the Amang Rodriquez Hospital.

In Batangas, Police Officer 3 Jeffrey Luce was wounded in an alleged encounter following a sting in Barangay District 111, Lemery town.

Police arrested Jesus Hernandez and Carlos Hernandez, who were both on the drug list, according to Batangas police director Senior Superintendent Randy Peralta.

In Tanauan City, Ricky Kalaw, 47, and Serafin Gallivo Jr., 29, were killed by motorcycle-riding men in Barangays San Felipe and Ambulong, respectively, on Friday.

Kalaw died at the scene while Gallivo was declared dead on arrival at the St. Andrew Hospital.

Police have yet to verify if the killings were drug-related.
