3 kidnap gang members killed in shootout
MANILA, Philippines - Three suspected members of a kidnapping gang, who took an Indian businessman in Biñan, Laguna on Sunday, were killed in an alleged shootout with police operatives yesterday.
Anial Sohal was unharmed and reunited with his family.
The alleged leader of the group, Inderit Singh, with aliases of Manjit and Goldy, an unidentified Indian man and Wilbert Ong clashed with operatives of the Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group near the Southwoods toll gate at the South Luzon Expressway in Barangay San Francisco at around 1:40 p.m., said AKG chief Senior Superintendent Glenn Dumlao.
Sohal positively identified the fatalities as the gunmen who seized him in Barangay San Antonio on Sunday, said Dumlao.
He said the kidnappers contacted the family of the victim and initially demanded P20 million, but agreed to reduce it to P935,000 after negotiations.
Sohal’s family coordinated with the AKG, which planned an entrapment during the supposed payment of ransom.
Dumlao said the kidnappers, who were in a blue Toyota Corolla (UMA-548), opened fire when AKG personnel asked them to pull over.
Dumlao said the kidnappers, who had victimized their fellow Indians, had been under surveillance for several months now.
He said pursuit operations for the other members of the syndicate are underway.
