Romblon priest named Lucena bishop

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Pope Francis on Saturday appointed Fr. Mel Rey Uy of the Diocese of Romblon as bishop of Lucena in Quezon province.

Uy will replace Rev. Emilio Marquez, who retired last year.

Before the appointment, Uy has been steward of the temporalities of the Diocese of Romblon since 2010.

At the same time, he was director of the Diocesan Commission on Liturgy and the Diocesan Pastoral Secretariat.

Born in San Agustin, Romblon, Uy finished philosophy at the St. Pius X Seminary in Roxas City and theology at the University of Santo Tomas.

After his ordination in 1994, Uy joined the Diocese of Romblon, which he served for 23 years.
