AirAsia to open Davao-KL flights

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Low cost carrier AirAsia will open flights between Davao and Kuala Lumpur next year.

The four times a week flights will start on Jan. 21, Tony Fernandes, AirAsia president and chief executive officer, announced during the Davao Investment Conference on Friday.

Fernandes said the new route was among the issues he discussed with President Duterte during the World Economic Forum in Phnom Penh in May.

“Davao has a special place in my heart. It was one of the first cities we flew to when we started our Philippine operations in 2012. In fact, Clark-Davao, which we pioneered, was one of the two maiden routes when we started AirAsia Philippines five years ago,” he said.

The route will be the fourth from the Philippines to Malaysia via AirAsia after Manila, Cebu and Kalibo.
