Rizal prosecutor’s slay work-related?

Jess Diaz - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  The motive for the killing of Rizal assistant prosecutor Maria Ronatay on Tuesday can be work-related, police said yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Albert Ocon, Rizal police director, said Ronatay was handling cases involving illegal drugs and other crimes before she was slain.

Ocon said probers are coordinating with the anti-cybercrime unit to enhance footage taken by a closed-circuit television camera near the crime scene.

Personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation, Rizal police and Rizal prosecutor’s office held a meeting yesterday to share information that can help resolve the case, Romy Lin, NBI-death investigation division chief, told The STAR.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III ordered the NBI to conduct a parallel probe into the incident.

Superintendent Daniel Alinas, Criminal Investigation Detection Group- Calabarzon director, said the CIDG is also conducting a separate probe.

Initial investigation showed Ronatay’s car was stuck in traffic along Ortigas extension road in Barangay San Isidro, Taytay at around 5 p.m. when one of two men on a motorcycle  shot her at close range.

Witnesses said the assailants fled toward Barangay Kaytikling.
