MAGUINDANAO — Two children were injured when gunmen shot with 40-millimeter grenades using shoulder-fire launchers a house in Datu Anggal town at past 7 p.m. Thursday.
The victims, Akmad Sigah, 15, and Jerome Guiama, 12, sustained shrapnel wounds in different parts of their bodies. They are now confined in a hospital.
Senior Superintendent Agustin Tello, police director for Maguindanao province, said the grenade projectiles were launched from a distance by gunmen who immediately escaped after the explosives hit their target and went off.
Tello said personnel of the Datu Anggal municipal police are still trying to establish the identities of the culprits.
“Let us give them enough time to get to the bottom of this atrocity. The perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law once identified,” Tello said.
He said members of the Datu Anggal municipal peace and order council are helping investigate the incident, which triggered panic among villagers.
