DOTr to bid out new Clark airport
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines – The government has decided to bid out the construction of a new terminal building of the Clark International Airport, according to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.
Vicencio Dizon, chairman of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, said the bidding for Phase I of the project is set on July 21.
Tugade earlier junked plans to bid out the project, saying it would delay the construction if many investors will participate. He said the government should just undertake the construction of the terminal and bid out the operations and maintenance of the airport.
However, during the Asia chief executive officers forum held here the other day, Dizon said it was announced that foreign and local contractors could bid for the project.
President Duterte approved the project, which would require an additional budget of P12.2 billion, during a recent Cabinet meeting.
The government allocated P2.8 billion for the project under the 2015 and 2016 national budgets.
Dizon said the new Clark airport terminal, which can accommodate eight million passengers annually, will decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
