Mild quakes jolt Surigao

MANILA, Philippines - Two mild earthquakes hit parts of Surigao del Norte yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The first quake, a magnitude 3.6, occurred at about 9:39 a.m. The epicenter of the quake was traced eight kilometers southwest of San Francisco town.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4 in San Francisco, Malimono and Surigao City  and Intensity 1 in Mainit.

Another tremor with a magnitude of 4.8 occurred at around 3:41 p.m. The epicenter was located 48 kms northeast of Burgos town.

The quake was felt at Intensity 2 in Surigao City.

Phivolcs said the tremors were unlikely to generate aftershocks.
