11 nabbed for illegal fishing

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines  – Eleven persons were arrested for alleged illegal fishing along the San Fernando Bay in Barangay Poro in this city yesterday. 

 At least 25 kilos of assorted fish, four fishing boats and fishing gear were seized from the fishermen, who were taken to the police station for filing of charges. 

Florycel Obeña, city fishery officer, said the fishermen were collared for illegal entry and fishing without permit. The fishermen were also asked to pay a fine of P1,000 each and P5,000 per vessel.
