Soldier killed, 4 hurt in Camarines Norte clash
CAMARINES NORTE , Philippines – An Army soldier died and four others were wounded in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Labo, Camarines Norte before dawn yesterday.
The identity of the soldier was withheld pending notification of his family.
Col. Ferozaldo Paul Regencia, deputy chief of the 902nd Brigade, said the fighting occurred when the rebels raided a military detachment in Barangay Dumagmang.
In Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur, a rebel identified only as Bojek surrendered to the 81st Infantry Battalion (IB) on Tuesday. The rebel also turned over his Garand rifle.
Lt. Col. Eugenio Osias, 81st IB commander, said Bojek is the eighth NPA guerrilla who have surrendered in the province since January.
