TANAUAN CITY, Philippines (The Filipino Connection— A 65-year-old former convict was shot to death by unidentified group of gunmen in Barangay Wawa here on Monday evening, police said.

Superintendent Audie Madrideo, Tanauan police chief, identified the victim as Mariano Malaluan.

Police reports said at about 6:20 p.m., the victim just finished obtaining documents related to his homicide case from Barangay Captain Jiennch Nones in Tanauan City, Batangas.

He immediately boarded the Tamarax FX van driven by nephew Jeric Llanto when they were flagged down and subsequently, three unidentified suspects shot the victim, causing his instantaneous death.

The suspects immediately escaped towards unknown direction with the firearms used.

Authorities are looking at the angle of old grudge as motive for the killing.

Madrideo said the Malaluan was found guilty for homicide in 2007 in relation to the killing of neighbor Pablito De Leon and was imprisoned at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City for 10 years before he was paroled last March 2017.

Police recovered from the crime scene seven fired cartridges, two deformed bullets and Toyota Tamarax FX with Plate No. WEZ-397.
