Comelec secures Marawi voter’s records
MANILA, Philippines - Voter’s registration records have been secured amid clashes between government troops and members of the Maute group, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) assured the public yesterday.
Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista said they are monitoring the situation in the area even as poll records were transferred to the provincial capitol.
Bautista said they also provided financial assistance to at least 61 Comelec personnel affected by the hostilities in Lanao del Sur.
Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said Comelec personnel in Marawi were evacuated to Iligan, Cagayan de Oro and other nearby areas.
The full commission earlier approved the grant of P1 million in assistance to Comelec personnel in Marawi.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is studying whether to push through with its job fairs in Mindanao as part of the celebration of Independence Day.
“We cannot take risks because job fairs are a magnet for congregation of people,” said DOLE Undersecretary Dominador Say.
DOLE plans to hold job fairs in at least 18 areas in Mindanao on June 12.
