Sufficient rice supply in Mindanao — NFA
MANILA, Philippines - There is enough supply of rice in Mindanao even as the National Food Authority (NFA) padlocked its warehouses following the declaration of martial law.
“We have sufficient stocks. In fact, we have more deliveries coming in...We have enough stocks in our warehouses to satisfy the demand,” Mercedes Yacapin, NFA assistant general manager, told reporters on the sidelines of a weekly forum yesterday.
Yacapin said they have 33,000 bags at their warehouse in Marawi, and could get stocks from neighboring provinces if the need arises.
She said NFA warehouses in Mindanao were padlocked for security reasons and would open only to accept deliveries.
“We augmented security...in the area,” Yacapin said.
She said the Department of Social Welfare and Development and concerned local government units should immediately notify the NFA if they need additional stocks.
“If they ask, we can provide them because NFA’s priority is buffer stock for emergencies,” she said.
Yacapin gave assurance that the NFA has reserve stocks in case the situation in Mindanao worsens.
