Biñan intensifies campaign vs illegal drugs

Biñan Mayor Arman Dimaguila, police and barangay officials launch Oplan Salikop.

MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Biñan has intensified its campaign against illegal drugs under a program dubbed Oplan Salikop.

Mayor Arman Dimaguila said Oplan Salikop, which was initially launched in Barangays Malaban, San Antonio and Langkiwa, was instrumental in the decrease in the number of drug peddlers and users in the city.

Dimaguila said Oplan Salikop is their version of Oplan Tokhang of the Philippine National Police.

The program involves the lockdown of a target barangay aside from medical, psychosocial, community and police engagement.

“With Malaban declared a drug-free community, it proves that our lockdown operation...is working and that the drug problem can be solved without bloodbath,” Dimaguila said.

He said 56 of over 200 drug surrenderees, who enrolled in a rehabilitation program, recently graduated. The surrenderees underwent training, including family counseling and prayer healing. They were also provided livelihood training and participated in community services and sports clinics.

”We will continue to give support services to drug users who will surrender and are willing to undergo rehabilitation to help them start anew and become active members of society again,” Dimaguila said.
