Makati police chief, intelligence head sacked

MANILA, Philippines – Due to command responsibility, Makati City police chief and another high official were relieved from their posts following the arrest of their four subordinates allegedly involved in abduction and extortion.

Superintendent Dionisio Bartolome and intelligence head Chief Inspector Oscar Pagulayan will have to explain to the Philippine National Police how they did not know the illegal activities of their underlings.

Four Makati police officers were nabbed in an entrapment operation on Tuesday night after one of their victims reported them for extortion and threatening to kill his whole family.

The suspects identified as PO2 Harley Garcera, PO2 Clarence Maynas, PO1 Tim Santos and PO1 Jeffrey Cañete were already detained at Camp Crame and will face administrative and criminal charges.

According to reports, the victim only identified as "Mark” and his girlfriend were in Pasay on Monday when ununiformed police officers abducted them.

They were only released after paying P100,000, but needed to pay another P100,000 for the protection of his family as the suspects threatened to kill them .

The suspects were nabbed after the victim sought help from Counter-Intelligence Task Force that planned the entrapment operation.
