MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED 7:21 p.m.) – At least 26 people were killed after a passenger minibus fell down a ravine in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija on Tuesday.
Authorities said that the fatalities include 18 women, seven men and a child, while 21 more were injured and were rushed to a hospital in Bambang town in neighboring Nueva Vizcaya.
Initial investigation revealed that the minibus was traversing a zigzag road in Barangay Capintalan when the accident happened around 11:30 a.m.
The Leomarick minibus (AVZ-757), which was heading to Candon in Ilocos Sur, reportedly lost its brakes and fell down the ravine.
Traffic in the area has also been affected as the national road has been temporarily closed to the public.
The Palace has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said that those responsible for the accident would be held responsible.
