Man, girlfriend slain in ambush

MANILA, Philippines - A 20-year-old man and his girlfriend were shot dead in a car parked near his residence in Quezon City on Sunday night.

Mark Erickson Valdez was gunned down along with Maria Cris Patriarca, 24, near his home along Virgo street in Barangay Bagbag at around 6:40 p.m.

Valdez’s father told police he was in their house waiting for them when he heard successive gunshots.

When he went out to check, they were already bloodied and lifeless inside the maroon Kia Rio.

Probers said the two had just arrived home after Valdez brought his father’s laptop to a computer repair shop in Rockville Subdivision in Novaliches when unidentified assailants ambushed them.   

Police recovered six fired cartridge cases, bullet fragments, the laptop and other personal belongings inside the car.

Valdez and Patriarca were shot in the head repeatedly, probers said.

Investigators have yet to determine the motive for the murders.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District.
