Tourist unhurt in suicide jump

MANILA, Philippines -  A Chinese tourist tried to commit suicide at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) before noon yesterday after he was offloaded from his flight to Shanghai.

Dong Chongying, 24, jumped from the third level of NAIA 3. He landed on the roof of a taxi that was lined up at the terminal’s arrival area, its driver waiting for passengers.

Authorities did not elaborate on why Dong was prevented from boarding his flight.

Taxi drivers helped him stand up and brought him to the airport clinic, where doctors said he did not sustain injuries.

Dong was later turned over to the airport police for investigation. Several of his countrymen fetched Dong from the airport upon learning of his suicide attempt.

Three Filipinos have killed themselves by jumping from the upper levels of NAIA-3 over the past few years,  one in 2014 and two in 2016, insiders said.
