Fires break out in QC

MANILA, Philippines -  Two fires broke out in a residential area and a commercial establishment in Quezon City over the weekend.

City fire marshal Senior Superintendent Manuel Manuel said six families were left homeless in a fire that struck Kalinisan street in Barangay Batasan Hills.

Manuel said the blaze started at a house owned by Jose Estrella at around 2:30 a.m. yesterday.

The fire reached the second alarm before it was put out by firefighters at past 3 a.m.

Kevin Villanueva, 18, was hurt during the incident.

Arson probers said an improvised lamp caused the fire.

Damage to property was placed at P50,000.

In Barangay Paligsahan, a fire hit the service center of Hyundai Motors on Saturday night.

Authorities said the fire originated at the human resources office on the second floor of the building.

The fire destroyed at least P100,000 worth of property.
